Developmental delay clinic

Developmental delay (DD) in children, is a common and concerning presentation in general paediatric and neurology practice.

DD is reserved for children younger than 7 years of age, diagnosed when a child fails to reach developmental milestones as expected. DD is broad and relates to multiple facets of health that may play a role.

Global Developmental Delay (GDD) is reserved for children younger than 5 years of age who show significant delays (scores two or more standard deviations below the mean) in two or more of the following developmental domains: fine/gross motor skills, speech/language, social or personal skills, and activities of daily living.

In our clinics we offer expert, empathetic and comprehensive care:

  • Detailed and longitudinal approach to neurological history and physical examination
  • Comprehensive neurodevelopmental assessments to identify the degree of the delay and the domains affected

  • Investigations tailored made and based on each child’s presentations and co-occurring conditions, with genetic testing being the first line for unexplained cases of GDD
  • Anticipatory guidance and advice to support your child’s health and development.

We offer Multidisciplinary treatment focusing on:

  • Audiology and ophthalmology assessments
  • Physiotherapy /occupational therapy/speech and language therapy.
